  • Ryu Si Won has spent approximately $8 million USD (10 billion KRW) for the construction of a building in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The construction of the Ryu Si Won Building – with seven above-ground floors and two underground floors – is scheduled to be completed next month. Ryu has been directly involved with the architectural and interior design. The use of the building has yet to be confirmed; however, it is likely that Ryu’s agency, R’s Company, and his racing team, Team 106 (sponsored by EXR) will move in. Space will also be leased/rented to other businesses. Ryu joins several other celebrities who own $4-8 million buildings in the Gangnam area: baseball player Park Chan Ho, singers Seo Taiji, Shin Seung Hun, Bi, comedian Shin Dong Yeop, and actors Ko So Young and the Kim Seung Woo-Kim Nam Joo couple.

  • Triple‘s male leads – Lee Jung Jae, Lee Sun Kyun, Yoon Kye Sang – admitted that they really enjoyed watching the first few episodes of the drama on television. Lee Jung Jae stated, “I watched the broadcast quietly alone at home. I watched really enjoyably. Although the audience [numbers] didn’t come out to what I expected, it’ll do well.” Co-star Lee Sun Kyun expressed similar sentiments and added, “I usually don’t have a nagging personality but maybe due to my love for this production, I keep giving my acting juniors Kim Hee and Min Hyo Rin an earful. I think I’m becoming more and more like Hae Yoon.” The youngest of the three, Yoon Kye Sang, admitted that he originally wasn’t going to watch episodes 1 and 2. “When filming a drama, there are times when I’m ashamed to see my acting. Every time that happens, my heart wavers. Since the atmosphere on set is so good, I was fearful that my wavering would cause a setback. But then I turned on the TV five minutes prior [to the first episode]. It was really fun,” Yoon said. Despite generally positive reviews, ratings have remained in the single digits. According to TNS Media Korea, episode 3 of Triple captured 6.9% of viewers as opposed to City Hall‘s 16.7% and The Accidental Couple‘s 15.0%.

Learn English with JYP

JYP Music English

JYP Music English

English lecture videos by Park Jin Young (JYP) were posted online by e-learning company i-net school on February 16.

Last July, JYP Entertainment partnered with i-net school to create English learning material. JYP Music English includes two videos that are targeted at youth studying English. They are available to watch for free to any Korean citizen who registers with the website.

Park Jin Young chose Ne-Yo’s song “So Sick” to explain words and phrases in the English lyrics. He taught some important grammar points and frequently-used American expressions. JYP also told some interesting stories, such as how he met Ne-Yo and how JYP started his company in New York in difficult circumstances.

Park explained, “To students, foreign languages such as English are like a key that can lead them into a new world. Instead of studying with pressure, it is more effective to study content that they are actually interested in. [I] hope that these lectures become an opportunity for [students] to enjoy studying English.”

Wonder Girls’ Agenda

Wonder Girls in America

Wonder Girls in America

Wonder Girls quietly left the country (Korea) on January 31, without revealing their destination or intentions to the public. However, it’s been revealed that they are in America for business.

The business relates to Park Jin Young (JYP)’s plans to collaborate with others to produce a television show in the U.S. Last year, he stated in an interview that he had plans to work with famous production companies for a show that would feature some JYP trainees and stars.

Wonder Girls prepared in Korea for the auditions, and are now in America to audition for the American TV show. JYP and the girls’ goal is that all five of them will be be cast in the program.

This program is not to be confused with the Dream High project, which is independent from this matter. It is already likely that Wonder Girls will make an appearance in the Asian drama (Dream High), while this program requires that they succeed in auditions.

In the U.S., they have been seen promoting themselves (with their English names – Yenny, Sun, Mimi, Sohee, and Yubin) at Worlds on Fire.

Following their American trip, Wonder Girls will hold their own concert in Bangkok, Thailand on February 28. Then, they will head back over the States for the JYP Tour 2009 Concert[s] in Los Angeles (March 5), Orange County (6), and New York (8). They will hold their first full-length concert in Korea (since their debut) on March 21 (Busan) and March 28 (Seoul). The first round of tickets have already been sold out.

Auditions for Bae Yong Joon & JYP’s Dream High

Bae Yong Joon and Park Jin Young are searching Asia and North America for a dream cast for Dream High, a drama that the two megastars will be co-producing.

co-producers

co-producers

On February 5, a representative for Dream High stated that their goal is to hold open auditions in at least 15 cities in four countries – Korea (eight cities), Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), China (Beijing and Shanghai), the United States (Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York), and possibly others. They are considering holding auditions in L.A., Orange County, and New York in March, to coincide with JYP Entertainment’s concert dates.

The auditions will be held by Hollim, a company that Key West Entertainment (Bae) and JYP Entertainment (Park) have set up together for this drama. Since JYP Entertainment already has expertise and experience in finding and developing stars, the company will have a larger role in casting. Dream High‘s representative stated that they are even considering making the audition process into a televised program like American Idol.

There is high potential that Wonder Girls will appear in the film; however, it will be confirmed after the script is ready. It is also possible that co-producers Bae and Park may also make appearances in the movie. Potential characters for them are being discussed; however, since the movie’s premise is a school of performing arts, they may just play themselves.

Their goal is to finish casting and hire a screenwriter in the first half of the year, start filming in the summer, and have the drama premiere in early 2010.
