  • Actor Jung Jae Young went bald for the first time in his acting career  for a film role. He got his head shaved on July 8 in order to wear the wig that he needs to play an elderly man in Eekki (이끼). (KP’s note: I’m not sure what the English title will be because 이끼 is the Korean word for moss as well as the phrase “Dear me!/What a fright!”.)

The leads of KBS2’s legal drama are currently sleeping less than two hours per night in order to film two episodes per week. The tight schedule is a result of the drama being pushed up two months due to SBS’s complaints against Magazine Allo. Fortunately, Partner‘s viewership went up over the past week from 7.7% (episode 4) to 12.1% (episode 5), surpassing Triple‘s weak 6.8%.

  • Moon Hee Jun and his fan club distributed toys at Hansarang – a centre for children with disabilities – in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do. The nature of the charitable activity was linked with his new mini album‘s title track, “Toy”.

  • Ryu Si Won has spent approximately $8 million USD (10 billion KRW) for the construction of a building in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The construction of the Ryu Si Won Building – with seven above-ground floors and two underground floors – is scheduled to be completed next month. Ryu has been directly involved with the architectural and interior design. The use of the building has yet to be confirmed; however, it is likely that Ryu’s agency, R’s Company, and his racing team, Team 106 (sponsored by EXR) will move in. • Triple‘s male leads – Lee Jung Jae, Lee Sun Kyun, Yoon Kye Sang – admitted that they really enjoyed watching the first few episodes of the drama on television. Lee Jung Jae stated, “I watched the broadcast quietly alone at home. I watched really enjoyably. Although the audience [numbers] didn’t come out to what I expected, it’ll do well.” Co-star Lee Sun Kyun expressed similar sentiments and added, “I usually don’t have a nagging personality but maybe due to my love for this production, I keep giving my acting juniors Kim Hee and Min Hyo Rin an earful. I think I’m becoming more and more like Hae Yoon.” The youngest of the three, Yoon Kye Sang, admitted that he originally wasn’t going to watch episodes 1 and 2. “When filming a drama, there are times when I’m ashamed to see my acting. Every time that happens, my heart wavers. Since the atmosphere on set is so good, I was fearful that my wavering would cause a setback. But then I turned on the TV five minutes prior [to the first episode]. It was really fun,” Yoon said. Despite generally positive reviews, ratings have remained in the single digits. According to TNS Media Korea, episode 3 of Triple captured 6.9% of viewers as opposed to City Hall‘s 16.7% and The Accidental Couple‘s 15.0%.

Tae Hee / Hye Kyo / Ji Hyun – MBC’s New Sitcom

A new MBC sitcom titled Tae Hee / Hye Kyo / Ji Hyun (태희혜교지현이) will premiere on March 2. Its target audience is women aged 30-50. Cast members include Park Mi Sun, Jung Seon Gyung, Kim Hee Jung, Hong Ji Min, Choi Eun Kyung, Sunwoo Yong Nyeo, Kim Gook Jin, Yoon Jong Shin, Moon Hee Jun, and Jang Hee Jin.

The sitcom focuses on a group of women in their late thirties and early forties who live in the same middle-class neighbourhood. They have become friends while raising children who are of similar age to each other. Although they face difficulties due to the current economic crisis, they work hard to fulfill their hopes and dreams.

The creators of the show claim that the title has nothing to do with Korea’s top female stars (Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo, Jun Ji Hyun), but was chosen because there are lots of Korean females with those names. A representative added, “Every woman is the star of her own life.”

In contrast to old ‘home sitcoms’ that focused on one or two families, the show will include the lives of many different families. The screenwriter, Kim Hyun Hee, was responsible for writing shows such as Catching a Gangnam Mother and Working Mom. PD Jeon Jin Soo directed the Nonstop series and Kimchi Cheese Smile.

Promotional videos for the sitcom will be broadcast starting on the 21. The promos will feature dozens of MBC variety show stars including Infinity Challenge MCs, Kang Ho Dong, and Lee Yoon Ji. SNSD assisted the cast in doing a “Gee” parody (shown in the picture above). It is said that MBC is throwing a lot of weight behind this project because it has not had a successful sitcom since Unstoppable High Kick.
