Wolverine Charms Korea

with 9 comments

KP’s note: We try to focus solely on Korean pop culture domestically, which is why we don’t write much about Korean artists trying to break into the U.S. market or international artists visiting Korea. However, Hugh Jackman has been such a star to both fans and the media while promoting X-Men Originals: Wolverine with Daniel Henney in Seoul, so we’re making an exception. Their Seoul itinerary is outlined beyond the jump with photos.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

  • (Update) On many of the European and North American posters, Daniel Henney doesn’t even appear; yet in the Korean poster, he’s second only to Hugh Jackman.

At the airport, afternoon of April 9:

  • Hugh Jackman greeted fans at Incheon International Airport.

At the press conference, morning of April 10:

  • Jackman and Henney met with the press to promote X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (KP’s note: I’m not quite sure why they decided to choose such ugly, unsuitable chairs for the event.)

At a Seoul PR event, afternoon of April 10:

  • Hugh Jackman was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the city of Seoul.

Filming, late afternoon of April 10:

  • Both Henney and Jackman filmed an episode of SBS variety program, Gold Miss is Going. They will (each?) go on a  movie date with one of the Gold Miss hosts.

On the red carpet, evening of April 10:

  • The two actors spent half an hour walking along the 100 metre red carpet, signing autographs and taking photos with approximately 500 fans.

  • The actors made their mark.

  • Shedding the top half of his formal attire and throwing his tie into the crowd, Jackman surprised the audience by singing “O Pilseung (Victory), Korea” (the cheering anthem for the Korean World Cup team). He capped off his performance by shouting out, “Dae~Han-Min-Guk! (Republic of Korea)”.

Side note:

  • Jackman previously visited Korea once when promoting X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.

  1. wow… this is quite an event… with those pics, you can see the differences between korean actor and an american actor… how they look different sitting on the stage… korean actor tried to sit and smile in style with quite a bit of makeup on when the other actor seems to be in a more comfortable position… i hope korean actors will loosen up a little bit when they are in front of the fans and be more interactive and fun… you know… not putting on the “actor” mast the whole time…

  3. Thanks for the updates. The poster really remind me of Dragonball Evolution movie. When the actors came to Seoul to promote with Joon Park. Only in Korea they have DBE group poster with Joon and also solo poster of Joon. The poster in Korean words. Maybe it good but then they just only want to take advantage of the Korean stars that act in the movie.

  8. For *nanaee:
Ironically, Hugh Jackman is Australian and Daniel Henney is American! The latter can barely speak Korean and is totally natural speaking in English in Korean dramas/movie (e.g. Samsoon, Seducing Mr.Perfect, etc.)The reason Daniel look more made up is because he started out as a model…that’s why he looks more put on. Hugh has always been known for his rugged looks. Put Zac Effron (he’s American and he puts on make up)of High Sch Musical fame and you wont be making sweeping statements like the above…

  9. Zack Snyder’s done a fantastic job with the movie Watchmen. Very different concept all together. 6 legendary superheroes fighting crime in alternate 1985 America. Check out their facebook page http://tinyurl.com/facebook-watchmen
